Sunday was Bong Joon-ho’s night. The South Korean director took home four awards for his film Parasite, including Best picture, becoming the first film not in English to do so. He also won for Best international film, Best original screenplay and for Best director. For the latter, he beat out giants like Martin Scorsese, Quentin Tarantino, Sam Mendes and Todd Phillips. In his acceptance speech, he specifically thanked Scorsese, whose films he studied as a student.
