In the "State of Film Cameras 2019" -interview released a few days ago I blable about film cameras in 2019. The AE-1 gets quite alot of my time, so do these starter kits and my little glimpse at the Japanese market. As the video is just two heads talking, you can also use it as a podcast. Link to it in the bio.

Pfff.. AE-1.. i see a praktica 🙌 batteries dead, it still works.. the AE-1: dead.
I thought it was very interesting. In many ways a bit depressing that so much gear is faulty. I’ve an unused AE-1 in my camera draw. I’ll need to check it’s meter to see which it’s inaccurate.
I started out with a Praktica LTL3. Fantastic camera, very reliable. One major problem though, which made me sell it - awful viewfinder. Can't focus indoors, shooting wide open is a guessing game in terms of focus. You could only depend on it at infinity, or at f16.
Is the Ricoh failure rate driven by electronics or does that apply to their mechanical models as well, such as the XR-1?
It does AE also so I can check the overall exposure and what it selects for speed/aperture in auto or program.
